Cheryl and trophy surrounded by winning Niagara Regional Minor Football Association’s bantam championship team, August 16, 2015

The Niagara Region Minor Football Association honoured Wayne’s many years of work with the NRMFA by naming their Bantam league championship game “The Wally Barrow Memorial Championship”.  They asked Cheryl to present the trophy and much to Cheryl’s surprise, the coach then motioned to his team to join them on the field for a team photo.  It’s too bad the trophy is hidden in the team picture, but we received a nice photo afterwards, seen here in the Memorial Awards section.

Thank-you from Cheryl

June 2015

With my journey ending on May 30th with my husband’s interment, I want to thank all who helped me through the past horrendous 9 months.

Heartfelt gratitude to my dear friends Jean and Bobi who regularly delivered meals throughout Wayne’s illness last Fall. Appreciation also to Mary, Norma and Rachael for their contributions.

Special thanks to our daughter-in-law, Lori, for our numerous drives to Hamilton and for the countless hours she sat with me in various hospitals.

Thank you to many Cancer Society volunteer drivers who took Wally to Hamilton every day for 6 weeks. You are providing an extremely helpful service.

When the end mercifully came in December, thank you to many for the outpouring of support, cards, flowers, memorial donations and, especially for your attendance at the visitation. All greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Rev. Doug Schonberg of Chippawa Presbyterian Church for conducting the interment service with such compassion. And thanks to Lindsay of Morse & Son for your support. Special thanks to Jim and Barry, who traveled a great distance to give emotional tributes for their good friend. And many thanks to those who attended.

Many thanks to Lori & Jean for providing the wonderful luncheon and all their support. And thank you to my daughter, Kerrie, for designing this memorial website which will remain online to honour her step-father. All are welcome to continue to share photos and stories of happy times.

Whether you knew him as Wayne, or as Wally, his wonderful smile is greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Wilson-Barrow

The legend of Wally

I met Wally the first time at a Balfour convention at Lake Magog “near Sherbrooke” Quebec in 1982. His open hearted kind of guy gave us a ride back to Ottawa to fly back home to Edmonton. We have been colleagues ever since both taking pride in being The Ringman in our territories. We meet most every year at Balfour and then Jostens convention. When you met Wally it was like yesterday his way of joy and smile and laughter. Wally was a large part of the old boys group like the Jim’s, Lennies, John’s, Bob’s, Al’s, Sean’s, Rob’s and Barry’s. He also mentored many and was a key component bring the females into to the ring sales force always helping in what ever way he could. “A coach he was at all times” then bring Cheryl into the Jostens family what a treat. Wally a person to look up to each day as we walk through our lives. The legend of Wayne “Wally” Barrow will live forever.
